Periodontal disease is an infection of the tissues supporting and around your teeth. It is often painless, so you may not even realize you have it. It’s one of the main reasons that adults may lose their teeth. Gum disease results from plaque, the sticky bacteria on teeth. If your gums bleed easily, are sore or red, or your teeth seem to be loose. Gum disease can cause many problems before you are even aware of it and regular checkups are very important.
The aligners are custom-made for your teeth and are designed to be virtually invisible, making them a popular alternative to traditional metal braces. The average treatment lasts 5 to 6 Months.
Overall, the Invisalign process is designed to be comfortable, convenient, and discreet.

Periodontal disease, also known as gum disease, is an infection of the tissues that hold your teeth in place. It is typically caused by poor oral hygiene, leading to plaque buildup and inflammation of the gums.
Periodontal disease progresses in stages:
Periodontitis: Advanced stage, where the gums pull away from the teeth, forming pockets that become infected. It can lead to bone and tissue loss if untreated.
Gingivitis: Early stage, characterized by red, swollen gums that may bleed easily.
Symptoms include red, swollen, or tender gums; bleeding while brushing or flossing; receding gums; persistent bad breath; loose teeth; and changes in bite alignment.
The primary cause is plaque, a sticky film of bacteria that forms on teeth. Other factors include smoking, hormonal changes, diabetes, certain medications, genetic susceptibility, and poor oral hygiene.
Diagnosis involves a dental examination, including measuring the depth of pockets around your teeth with a periodontal probe, and dental X-rays to check for bone loss.
Treatment depends on the severity:
Surgical treatments: Flap surgery, bone grafts, soft tissue grafts, and guided tissue regeneration may be necessary for advanced cases.
Non-surgical treatments: Scaling and root planing to remove plaque and tartar from below the gum line, and antibiotics to control infection.
Gingivitis, the early stage of periodontal disease, is reversible with good oral hygiene and professional cleaning. Periodontitis can be managed and its progression slowed, but it typically cannot be completely reversed.
Preventive measures include:
Brushing your teeth at least twice a day with fluoride toothpaste.
Flossing daily to remove plaque from between teeth.
Regular dental check-ups and professional cleanings.
Eating a balanced diet.
Avoiding tobacco use.
Yes, periodontal disease is linked to several systemic conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, respiratory diseases, and complications in pregnancy. Maintaining good oral health is important for overall well-being.
Occasional bleeding may not be serious, but if it persists, it could be a sign of gingivitis or periodontal disease. Visit your dentist for an evaluation and appropriate treatment.
Patients with periodontal disease may need to visit the dentist more frequently, typically every 3 to 4 months, for professional cleanings and monitoring of the condition.
Periodontal disease is not contagious, but the bacteria that cause it can be transmitted through saliva. It’s important to maintain good oral hygiene to minimize risk.
While it’s less common, children can develop gingivitis, the early stage of periodontal disease, especially if they have poor oral hygiene. Early intervention is crucial to prevent progression.
Risk factors include smoking, poor oral hygiene, diabetes, hormonal changes, certain medications, genetic predisposition, and conditions that reduce immunity.
Schedule an appointment with your dentist for an evaluation. Early diagnosis and treatment can prevent the progression of the disease and preserve your oral health.

Nashley TicasTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. It was my first time here and I was really nervous because it’s been a few years since I’ve been to the dentist. Right when I walked into the waiting room it was very welcoming, very clean, and modern. The front desk woman whose name I didn’t catch was very nice and greeted me with a friendly smile and a warm welcome. I got called in just after waiting for a few minutes. The dental assistant Gigi was super nice, very welcoming, and had some great humor too. She definitely helped ease my anxiety. Once I met Dr.Mehta, he came in with his warm energy and kindness. He made me feel very comfortable. He was super nice and made my experience coming to the dentist much better. He explained things very clearly and made sure I was up to date with everything. Lastly, the other front desk receptionist who’s named Nikkie helped me make my future appointment. She was super nice and very friendly. Overall, I wish I could give this dentist 10 stars but they truly made me feel comfortable and made my experience which I thought was going to be nerve wracking and horrible to the complete opposite! I would recommend coming to get your dentist work here and I am looking forward to my future appointments here. Thank you to all the staff at Smile Avenue! :)) Apple SeedTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Highly recommend this practice from someone with some pretty bad dental anxiety. The place is well kept and clean which already gives a welcoming environment. The dentist is informative and straight forward with what needs to be done. He seems to care and wants to save the teeth if he can. They are very clear with payments and will work with you financially. The last place quoted me over 15k for my dental work and I haven’t even gone over 2k yet. I will gladly pay whatever if it means I’m going to be comfortable. Reception, everything. I seriously could not recommend this place more.Verified by TrustindexTrustindex verified badge is the Universal Symbol of Trust.
